Jerudong International School (JIS) is honoured to be featured in the Spear’s Schools Index 2026, which highlights the Top 100 leading private schools in the world and the Asia-Pacific region.

This marks the second consecutive year that JIS has been recognised in the prestigious index, reaffirming the school’s continued commitment to excellence in education and its growing reputation on the international stage.

As the only school in Brunei to receive this distinction, the recognition represents a significant milestone not only for JIS but for the country as a whole. Notably, JIS is one of just fifteen schools from the Asia-Pacific region to secure a place in the Top 100 ranking, alongside leading institutions in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

The Spear’s Schools Index is an independent and research-led ranking produced in collaboration with the Thuso Group. Schools are assessed by an Expert Advisory Panel comprising respected international educationalists and sector specialists, ensuring a rigorous and comprehensive evaluation process.

The index evaluates schools based not only on academic performance but also on their pastoral care, cultural values and overall reputation. Schools featured in the index are recognised for their ability to provide a holistic, world-class education.

This continued recognition reflects the strength of the school’s educational philosophy. While academic achievement remains central, equal emphasis is placed on character development, global outlook and student wellbeing. Through a broad co-curricular programme spanning sport, performing arts, service learning and leadership, students are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Executive Principal at JIS, Nicholas Sheehan, commented: “We are proud to see JIS recognised once again within the Spear’s Schools Index. This recognition speaks to the consistency of our provision and the collective efforts of our students, staff and wider community. It is a privilege to represent Brunei within a global cohort of leading schools, and we remain focused on delivering an education that prepares our students not only for academic success, but for meaningful contribution beyond school.
