The ceremony was aimed at celebrating the DofE International Award winners for their achievements, as well as their dedication and perseverance in attaining their well-earned awards.
For the current academic year at ISB, a total of 43 students from ISB Secondary and ISB’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme have achieved this important accolade, with 2 Gold, 7 Silver, and 34 Bronze awards attained.
Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah binti Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Paduka Seri Pengiran Muda Mahkota Pengiran Muda Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah was among the ISB students to achieve the Bronze DofE International Award.
The event saw the attendance of Dr Peter Jones, Head of ISB Secondary; Ms Ai Ling Wong, Deputy Head of ISB Secondary; Ms Ashley David, Head of Enrichment at ISB; DofE International Award supervisors and assessors; as well as parents and family members of the awarded students.
All levels of the DofE International Award require participants to engage in four main sections of volunteering, skills, physical recreation, and an expedition called the Adventurous Journey. The Gold level of the award also includes a Residential section, where participants spend five consecutive days and four nights in a residential setting, working towards a common purpose with new people.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Dr Peter Jones said, “We live in a world that often prioritises the 'easy win.' But the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the antithesis of 'instant.' It is a marathon of the self. To our winners: You didn’t just meet a challenge; you dared to do. You have lived the very spirit of our school, and tonight, we celebrate your resilience and resourcefulness.”
ISB is proud to have delivered the DofE International Award since 2015. Widely recognised as the world’s leading youth achievement award, the DofE International Award is a global framework for non-formal education and learning, which challenges young people to dream big, celebrate their achievements, and make a difference in the world. Through developing transferable skills, increasing their fitness levels, cultivating a sense of adventure and volunteering in their community, the Award helps young people to find their purpose, passion, and place in the world. It operates in more than 140 countries and territories, helping to inspire millions of young people.
ISB students in the DofE International Award schemes have improved their confidence, resilience and teamworking skills while completing all the expected challenges well within a set time frame. The knowledge and experience gained will strengthen applications for university and for future employment.
