The Prince of Wales Island International Primary School is located on the northern coast of Penang Island and caters for children aged 3-11. The tenets of Truth, Integrity and Wisdom are underpinned by kindness, and provide an environment in which your child will thrive. Our rich, holistic curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage programme and the English National Curriculum, with the content modified and developed to ensure it is relevant for our students and our educational context.
Outstanding staff
The single most influential aspect of your child’s educational experience will be the quality of their teacher. At POWIIS Primary your child’s learning is supported by an outstanding team of experienced, committed, and well qualified expatriate teachers. Carefully recruited, our teachers share the school’s educational philosophy and will challenge, support and nurture your child on their educational journey. Meaningful, rich learning experiences
While ensuring academic rigour, learning should be enjoyable, purposeful and challenging. Our rich, broad curriculum offers challenge in the core components and demonstrates a commitment to Mandarin, sport, and the performing and creative arts. Beyond the timetabled school day, we offer a comprehensive range of after-school and weekend activities. These include academic, non-academic, and sporting opportunities as well as a flourishing creative and expressive arts programme involving dance, drama, art classes, orchestra and choir. These meaningful and relevant learning experiences at POWIIS Primary will develop articulate, confident, well-rounded children prepared for the ever-changing world they will face. Building connection and wellbeing
Schools flourish when positive relationships are fostered and developed across the community. At POWIIS Primary, knowing and understanding your child is imperative. Our strong pastoral care and positive partnerships with families, individual children, between colleagues, and with the wider community is an ongoing priority. Being connected and feeling a sense of belonging promotes wellbeing - an important aspect in achieving this is giving students a voice in school. POWIIS Primary has an active school council, a sustainability committee and student House leadership, all opportunities for the students to discuss issues or raise concerns and suggest ways to improve the school. The school’s four Houses (Rahman, Gandhi, Mandela, Pankhurst) provide a cross-phase ‘family’ within the school. Children enjoy participating in House events, quickly developing a sense loyalty to their House. PIC (international day/welcome back picnic)
Excellent, purpose-built facilities
The innovative school design at POWIIS Primary is purpose-built to support the educational priorities of the different year groups. The EYFS and KS1 students access learning through their indoor and outdoor environment and as such there is a sense of flow between the learning areas. All classrooms are well resourced and feature a built-in media wall. Excellent sporting facilities including a large playing field, multi-purpose sports hall, a 7 lane, 25m swimming pool and a dance studio. Other facilities include a large library, music rooms, 1:1 instrumental rooms, a science lab, language rooms, and art studios. PIC (EYFS outdoor area, swimming pool)
At POWIIS Primary, we are proud of our commitment to holistic education; through which your child’s cognitive, physical, creative, and social and emotional development will be nurtured. Allowing them to celebrate diversity and see a world of infinite possibilities.
We look forward to meeting you!
