A majority of international schools in Thailand are located in its capital city, Bangkok. Residents in Bangkok enjoy a tropical monsoon climate throughout the year (hot season from March to June, rainy season from July to October, and cool season between November and February). 

Bangkok is home to over eight million people, two million of those are expatriates and non-Thai residents. Sukhumvit is known as one of Bangkok’s most modern and cosmopolitan districts with no shortage of entertainment, dining and shopping establishments. It is also a popular residential hub for expatriates. 

Here are some of the international schools located in Sukhumvit:  

1. NIST International School  

The school was established in 1992 and began offering International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes in 1999 when they were recognised as an IB World School. The IB PYP, MYP and DP programmes are provided to students from Early Years to Year 13. Students at NIST are encouraged to strengthen their native language skills while picking up an additional language. This is possible at NIST as various subjects are offered in over a dozen languages. 

 

2. Singapore International School of Bangkok (SISB)

Established in 2001, SISB has five campuses throughout Thailand. The school’s Ekkamai campus is located in Sukhumvit and is open to children aged two to nine years old. A child-centred curriculum is offered at nursery and kindergarten levels where as the Singapore National Curriculum is offered at primary school level. SISB focuses on improving their students’ language skills in Thai, English and Mandarin. 

 

3. St. Andrews International School Bangkok

St. Andrews offers the British Curriculum to students aged two to 18 years old. Students sit for the IGCSE examination and have the opportunity to gain IB Diploma qualifications at pre-university level. The school’s first language programme aims to improve students’ native language skills in French, German, Japanese and Korean. In addition, St. Andrew’s has a special collaboration with the prestigious Julliard School for their performing arts programme. 

 

4. The American School of Bangkok

Established in 1983, the school offers the American Curriculum from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 levels. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are also offered to help students increase their chances of getting into a university or college of their choice. The school also helps its students prepare for university by providing the SATs and TOEFL qualifications. In addition, students in Grades 9 to 12 have to complete the mandatory ASB Community Service Programme. 

5. Topsy Turvy International School

The school opened in 1992 and offers the British Curriculum. Children aged two to 11 years old are welcome to enter nursery to Year 6 levels. 

 

6. Trinity International School 

Established in 2003, the school offers the American Curriculum to students aged three to 18 years old. The school’s curriculum is based on the California Department of Education and is infused with Adventist values. English as a Second Language (ESL) programmes are also offered. 

 

7. Wells International School

Students at Wells International School are taught the American Curriculum from Grades 1 to 12. This college preparatory school also offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses and the IB Diploma Programme.
