Many more parents are investing in an early years’ education for their children today. Nowadays, children as young as two years old can be enrolled in preschool. An early years’ education prepares children to enter primary school by equipping them with basic academic, social and communication skills. When choosing preschool for their child, parents need to consider factors such as curriculum offered, teacher credentials, outdoor or physical activities and teaching methods, among others.
Thailand has a thriving international school industry offering preschool up to pre-university levels. A majority of international schools in Thailand are located in its capital city, Bangkok. Here are some of the international preschools located in Bangkok:
1. Modern Montessori International Preschool
Established in 2003, this preschool offers the Montessori programme to children aged 18 months to 6 years old. Children will learn through Practical Life Exercises, Sensorial Training, Montessori Language, and Montessori Mathematics and Cultural subjects. In addition, the preschool also offers additional programmes such as Field Trips, Passport to the World, Creative Art and Craft, Music and Movement, Cooking, Water play and Physical Education.
2. Mulberryhouse International Preschool
Mulberryhouse follows the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) at their preschool. The programme offered revolves around four principles which are a Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments and Learning & Development. Children aged two to six years old are welcome to attend the preschool. The preschool also provides afterschool programmes such as Little Scientists, Taekwondo and Ballet Class.
3. New Bambino International Kindergarten
Established in 2000, the preschool offers a unique Japanese curriculum to students at nursery and kindergarten levels. There are programmes in both English and Thai. Children at New Bambino have to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as football, hip hop dance and yoga. There are also reading and writing classes to improve the children’s language skills.
4. Prep International Kindergarten
The kindergarten adopts the Montessori approach to teach their young students aged two to six years old. Established in 1996, Prep is known for taking lessons outdoors where students can engage with nature through play. Students will learn Montessori subjects such as Everyday Living, Math, Language, Art, Sensorial and Music. There are also additional English and Mandarin language classes.
5. Seeh Phinong International Kindergarten
Established in 1997, Seeh Phinong offers a combination of the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and American Creative Curriculum to children aged 18 months to six years old. The kindergarten also offers day-care and Saturday classes. Students can join afterschool activities such as soccer, cheerleading, swimming, cooking and hip hop.
6. Talents International Preschool
Children aged two to six years old are taught the American Child’s World Curriculum at the preschool. Established in 2003, the programme at Talents focus on social & emotional goals, cognitive goals, physical goals and moral/spiritual goals. The preschool also offers activities such as cooking, swimming and music. Mandarin and Thai language classes are also available.
7. The First Steps International Preschool
Established in 1996, First Steps offers the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to children aged 16 months to seven years old. Optional German and French language programmes are also offered as part of the daily curriculum. There is also a strong focus on physical education at the preschool. Swimming, performing arts and P.E classes are embedded in the preschool’s weekly curriculum.
8. The Tiny Seeds International Preschool
Tiny Seeds was opened in 2010 and caters to children aged 18 months to seven years old. In foundation stage classes, students are taught using special themes Seasons, Our Environment and Stories We Love. Students also have the opportunity to participate in activities such as Thai language and culture, swimming, sports, gymnastics, dance and music.
