Many schools in Myanmar adopt a British-based curriculum that closely reflects the National Curriculum of England. This curriculum consists of a set of disciplines and standards that are taught in elementary, middle, and high schools.

Students in these schools move through many well-structured and logical learning stages of that are well-structured and logical, from early childhood to university entrance. The curriculum prepares students for the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) exams at the end of secondary school. At the pre-university level, students commonly sit for the A Level examination.

Here is a list of international schools that offer the British curriculum in Myanmar. Some of these schools offer the Cambridge curriculum.

Pride International School Myanmar (PISM)

PISM was established in Yangon in 200 and now has three campuses, one for the Early Years, one for Primary and Secondary in Yangon, and a third in Mandalay that houses nursery, kindergarten, and primary and secondary education. The school offers Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework for their Early Years students whereas the British and Cambridge curricula for their primary and secondary students. Students in secondary school are prepared to sit for the IGCSE examination and progress to A levels after completion. 

Royal British International School 

Royal British International School opened its doors in 2017 and offers a combination of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Cambridge International Primary Curriculum at primary school level. Secondary school students are taught the Cambridge Curriculum to prepare them for the IGCSE. A Levels is offered at pre-university level. In addition to English as the medium of instruction, Mandarin and Spanish are also offered. 

Singapore International School 

The school is accredited by both the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) and the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE). Singapore International School accepts students from pre-nursery to grade 12. A combination of the Singapore Curriculum and IB Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme is offered. Students can sit for the Singapore International Primary School Examination (iPSLE) and the IGCSE at the end of secondary school. A Levels is offered at pre-university level. 

The British School Yangon 

Students from early years to sixth form of The British School Yangon follow the British curriculum. Secondary students take the IGCSE and A Level examinations, preparing them for university. In addition to English as the medium of instruction, Spanish, French and German are also offered. 

Myanmar International School Yangon

Myanmar International School Yangon (MISY) opened its doors in August 2009 in Yankin township, Yangon, Myanmar. MISY is an all-through school that caters to students from nursery and reception to year 12. Students are offered the British curriculum and are prepared for the IGCSE and A Level examination in Key Stages 4 and 5.

Shu Khinn Thar (SKT) International College

Situated in Thaketa Township, SKT International College offers the Cambridge curriculum leading to the IGCSE examination. The IBDP is offered to students ages 16 to 19, preparing them for university. SKT International College is well known for its ongoing participation in national and international math, science, and social studies competitions. The school has an Olympiad department made up of talented and knowledgeable instructors who train students after school and on weekends. Since 2006, the school has consistently won medals in these competitions. 

Promise – An International School 

Established in 2016, Promise - An International School is a co-educational, faith-based international school. Students from preschool to pre-university levels are welcome to join the school. The British Curriculum, IGCSE and A Levels are offered by Promise - An International School. In addition, Information Technology is integrated into the primary years’ syllabus and can be taken as an elective subject for the IGCSE. 

Brainworks Total International School Yangon 

The school is one of the institutions under Brainworks - Total, a group of K-12 integrated schools providing preschool, primary, secondary and pre-university education. Brainworks Total International School Yangon offers the IGCSE and A Level examination. The school’s syllabus also highlights the importance of the Burmese language and Myanmar culture. Students who need help in the English language can attend WISE Classes (Weekend Integrated School for English). 

Network International School 

The school originally started as Network Early Childhood Care and Development Centre in 1996. Over the years the school expanded to include primary and secondary school students. Network International School - Secondary officially opened in 2011. Five years later, the Primary building was built to unite students aged two to 18 years old in one campus. The school offers the British Curriculum leading up to the IGCSE examination with many of their students entering top universities such as Harvard and Yale.

Myanmar International School 

Situated in Yankin Township, Myanmar International School offers the Cambridge curriculum leading to the IGCSE examination. In the final two years of schooling, students of Myanmar International School are prepared for the A level examinations. The school provides their final year students with the flexibility to choose their A Level subjects as the school understands that academic courses are not for everyone, thus they are flexible in their offerings and support individual learning needs.

 

Crane International School Myanmar (CISM)

Located in Mayangone Township, CISM incorporates internationally recognized principles and practices in their curriculum. The CAIE base curriculum is offered to primary and lower secondary students whereas a curated curriculum and coursework are implemented for higher secondary students to prepare them for the IGCSE examination.
