The International Baccalaureate Curriculum was introduced by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) in 1968. The curriculum is well-known for its academically progressive and rigorous primary, secondary and pre-university programmes. 

These programmes include the Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), Middle Years Programme (IB MYP), Diploma Programme (IB DP) and Career-related Programme (IB CP). The International Baccalaureate Curriculum has gained recognition globally, especially in Asia. The IBO recognises several international schools in Southeast Asia as IB World Schools.

Here is a list of international schools in Vietnam offering the IB curriculum:

1. American International School Vietnam 

The school was established in 2016 and offers pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 education. The majority of the school’s student population consists of Vietnamese students. American International School offers the IB Curriculum infused with Vietnamese family values. Students have the opportunity to learn the IB PYP and MYP during their primary and secondary school years. At the pre-university level, they have the option to sit for the IBDP or American High School Diploma. The school also offers English as an Additional Language Programme. The performing arts are prioritised at the school as students are encouraged to participate in choral, instrumental and drama programmes. In addition, American International School has a counselling department that provides classroom sessions, small group meetings, one-on-one sessions and career/college guidance.

2. Australian International School

Situated in Ho Chi Min City, Australian International School offers the IB PYP to their 3 to 11-year-old students, and the IBDP to their 16 to 18-year-old students. Students will sit for the IGCSE examination in Years 10 and 11. On completion of their programmes, the majority of the senior students (Year 12 and 13) progress toward the IBDP. Additionally, the school offers boarding facilities.  

3. British International School

The British International School is part of the Nord Anglia Education Family and has two campuses - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. From early years through sixth form, each student follows a carefully chosen combination of English and international curricula, including the IGCSEs and IBDP. The medium of instruction is English, but Vietnamese, French, Spanish and German are also offered. Performing arts are also encouraged as the school collaborates with the Julliard School to deliver top-notch performing arts programmes to its students.

4. Canadian International School (CIS) 

CIS in Tan Phu Ward offers the Ontario curriculum for their students in kindergarten to Grade 12. Students in Grade 10 can choose between the Ontario curriculum or applying for the IBDP in Grade 11.

5. European International School 

European International School in Ho Chi Minh City offers a full range of IB programmes. They offer the IB PYP for students ages 3 to 12, the IB MYP for students 11 to 16, and the IB DP for students ages 16 to 19. A rich and diverse programme of ECAs is also provided for students to explore their interests and develop skills and talents.

6. Hanoi International School

The school was established in 1996 and offers the International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and DP. Hanoi International School’s enrolment grew steadily and moved to its current location in 1999. The school has a learning support department that helps students with special educational needs. One-on-one support, small group support, in-class support and private tutoring are also available. In addition, the school provides private counselling sessions to students going through difficult times at school. Hanoi International School also emphasises the performing arts with activities such as those organized by the band academy and drama productions.

7. International German School (IGS)

IGS is a German School abroad that is recognised by the Federal Republic of Germany and is a certified IB World School. Students in primary and secondary levels follow the German curriculum. The school’s programme is bilingual, with some subjects such as ICT and English being taught in German and English. At the end of Grade 12, high school students will graduate with the mixed-language IB (GIB Diploma). The school is located in Ho Chi Minh City.

8. International School Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) 

ISHCMC offers a full range of IB programmes. They offer the IB PYP for students ages 3 to 12, the IB MYP for students 11 to 16, and the IB DP or IB CP for students ages 16 to 19. Apart from academics, the school also offers an array of extracurricular activities, residential programmes and field trips for students to apply their academic knowledge to the outside world.

9. International Schools of North America

International Schools of North America in Binh Chanh District offers IB PYP, IB MYP, and IB DP for their primary and high school students. Apart from academics, the school offers an array of ECAs and summer programmes to ensure that each student has a balanced school life. Additionally, the school offers boarding facilities (or the boarding option) for students studying away from home.

 

10. Reigate Grammar School Vietnam (RGSV) 

RGSV in Hanoi offers the IB PYP for their primary school students. As the students’ progress to the secondary school level, they are prepared for the Cambridge IGCSE examination, a popular much sought-after international qualification The school also caters to sixth-grade students, offering them the option of taking the IB DP or the A levels.

11. Renaissance International School Saigon 

Renaissance International School offers an international, British-based education to students ages 2 to 18, from Early Years to Secondary level. Their Early Years to Key Stage 3 curriculum adheres to the English National Curriculum requirements, with some modifications made to accommodate the needs of a diverse international school population. In Key Stage 4, students study various subjects that lead to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). In Key Stage 5 - Years 12 and 13 are prepared to take the IBDP examination.

12. Saigon South International School (SSIS) 

SSIS is a member of both the South East Asia Student Activities Committee (SEASAC) and the Mekong River International Schools Association, and it has received full accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) (MRISA). Therefore, their students follow the North American Curriculum. High school students have the option of taking AP classes and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

13. Western Australian International School System (WASS)

WASS in Vo Thi Sau Ward offers their students an Australian curriculum specially curated for each student level. The WASS kindergarten programme combines Western Australia’s curriculum framework with the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training programme. Students in elementary and high school will then follow the Western Australian curriculum, which grants them a nationally recognised certificate in the Australian Qualifications framework. The IB DP is offered for students ages 16 to 19 years. 

 

14. United Nations International School of Hanoi 

United Nations International School Hanoi was established in 1988 and is known for being the first international school to open in Vietnam. It is also one of the two international schools under the United Nations that aim to educate agents for change. The school offers the International Baccalaureate PYP, MYP and DP. English as an Additional Language (EAL) support is also provided.
