The International Baccalaureate, also commonly known as the IB, is a comprehensive curriculum that is taught in more than 150 countries all across the world. Comprising four age-targeted programmes, the IB Programme takes an integrated approach to education, nurturing intellectual, personal, emotional, and social skills. The International Baccalaureate Organisation aims to create a better, more peaceful world by teaching students to think more critically and independently, and how to inquire with care and logic.
The four programmes that are offered by the IB Programme are the Primary Years Programme (PYP), from ages three to 12, the Middle Years Programme (MYP), from age 11 to 16, the Diploma Programme (DP), from age 16 to 19, and the Careers-Related Programme, from age 16 to 19. Each of these programmes stands on its own merits. Students do not need to complete the PYP and MYP to study for the IB Diploma.
Here is a list of IB World Schools located in Indonesia:
1. ACG Jakarta
ACG Jakarta offers the IB PYP and IB DP for students in primary and pre-university levels respectively.
2. ACS Jakarta
ACS Jakarta offers the Cambridge curriculum to students from kindergarten to high school. High School students then sit for the IGCSE and IB DP examinations.
Al Jabr Islamic School offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB CP to their students at primary, elementary and high school levels.
4. Australian Independents School (AIS)
The Australian curriculum is offered to students from preschool to high school. Students in Years 11 and 12 are later than offered the IB DP. The school has two campuses – Jakarta and Bali.
Bali Island School first opened in 1985 with only eight students in attendance. Now, the school has expanded and stands on its original site in South Bali. The school offers PYP, MYP and DP to students from Preschool to Grade 12. Learning support and special intervention programmes are available for students in Preschool to Grade 2.
Located in West Java, BIS offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to learners aged 3 to 18. The school also offers transportation services for students living in the Kota Baru or Dago area.
Beacon Academy offers the IB PYP and IB DP for students in primary and pre-university levels respectively. Students in middle school are taught the Cambridge curriculum.
8. Bina Tunas Bangsa School (BTB School)
Students in Grades 1 to 10 at BTB School are offered the Cambridge curriculum leading up to the IGCSE examination. As students’ progress to Grades 11 and 12, they are offered the IB DP.
Bina Nusantara, known for its computer training course, branched off into private education in 1998 by establishing Binus School Simprug. The school caters to students in Early Years, Elementary, Middle School and High School. In 2007, Binus School Simprug formed a collaboration with Hwa Chong Institution Singapore. The school offers PYP, MYP and DP.
10. British School Jakarta (BSJ)
BSJ offers the IB MYP, IB DP and IB CP to their secondary school students. their primary school students on the other hand are taught the International Primary Curriculum. Additionally, the school carries out various camps to ensure that their students have a well-balanced schooling life.
11. Canggu Community School (CCS)
Located in Bali, CCS offers the IB DP to their students ages 16 to 19. Apart from studies, the school has a wide array of after-school activities for students to participate in to encourage a balanced school life.
12. Cita Hati Christian Senior School
Cita Hati Christian Senior School has two campuses - East and West. Currently, their west campus offers the IB DP to their students ages 16 to 19 whereas their East campus offers the Cambridge curriculum.
13. Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School Bali
Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School Bali offers PYP, MYP and DP. The school accepts students to enter nursery to Grade 12 levels. Established in 2007, the school currently has approximately 500 students from over 30 countries. Gandhi Memorial Intercontinental School Bali also promotes an inclusive environment for its students.
Established in 1995, Global Jaya School initially offered Indonesia’s national curriculum to its students. The school began developing an international curriculum from 2004 to 2006. Global Jaya School now offers PYP, MYP and DP to students in primary, secondary and pre-university levels.
15. Hope Academy
Established in 2019 in West Jakarta, Hope Academy offers the IB PYP to their students aged 2 to 12.
16. IPEKA Integrated Christian School
Established in 1999, IPEKA Integrated Christian School offers the IB DP to their high school students in Years 11 to 12. Additionally, the school organises numerous trips, activities and excursions for their students allowing them to apply what they learn in school while developing new skills and knowledge.
17. Jakarta Intercultural School
High school students in Jakarta Intercultural School have the option of choosing between the IB DP and IB CP courses. The school has three campuses - Pondok Indah, Kebayoran Baru and Cilandak.
18. Jakarta Multicultural School (JMS)
JMS Secondary School is divided into three sections: lower secondary (Grades 7 and 8), upper secondary (Grades 9 and 10) and diploma (Grades 11 and 12). The school offers the Cambridge Secondary Programme 1 for the lower secondary, IGCSE for the upper secondary, and the IB DP at the diploma level.
In 1969, Medan Joint Consulate School was founded by American and British consulates at the time. There were only 15 children enrolled in the school. Expansion began in 1981 and the school moved to a purpose-built campus at its current location. The school offers PYP, MYP and DP.
20. Mentari Intercultural School
Mentari Intercultural School offers the IB PYP to learners in kindergarten to Grade 5, IB MYP for Grades 6 to 10 and IB DP for Grades 11 and 12. The school has three campuses - Jakarta, Bintaro and Grand Surya.
21. North Jakarta Intercultural School
North Jakarta International School offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to their students from primary to secondary school levels.
Students of SD BPK Penabur Banda are taught the IB PYP in Bandung's caring and nurturing environment.
Sekolah Bogor Raya offers the IB PYP for early years and primary school students. As students’ progress to secondary school, they are offered the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum from ages 11 to 16 in preparation for their IB DP at 16 to 18 years.
Established in 2008, the school offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to learners at Primary and Secondary levels. The school is located on the island of Sumbawa and is sometimes referred to as the “Jungle School”.
25. Sekolah Cikal
Sekolah Cikal in Lebak Bulus offers the IB PYP to students ages 3 to 12. Additionally, the school offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities to ensure that their students have a well-rounded education.
26. Sekolah Ciputra
Established in 1996 Sekolah Ciputra offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to learners from primary to high school levels. The school is located in Puri Widya Kencana.
27. Sekolah Global Indo – Asia
Sekolah Global Indo Asia in Batam offers the IB PYP for early years and primary school students. As students’ progress to secondary school, they are offered the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum from ages 11 to 16 in preparation for their IB DP at 16 to 18 years.
Sekolah Mutiara Harapan offers the IB PYP for early years and primary school students. As students’ progress to secondary school, they are offered the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum from ages 11 to 16. The school also offers A levels for students ages 16 to 18.
Sekolah Mutiara Nusantara offers the Cambridge curriculum from kindergarten to high school students. High School students then sit for the IGCSE and IB DP examinations.
Established in 1993, Sekolah Pelita Harapan has over five campuses across Indonesia, four of which offer IB courses. The Lipo Cikarang and Kemang Village campus offers the IB DP. On the other hand, the Sentul City and Lippo Village campus offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP. Additionally, boarding facilities are provided at the Sentul City campus.
31. Sekolah Tunas Bangsa (STB)
STB, located in West Kalimantan, provides the IB PYP for kids in the early years and primary school. The Cambridge IGCSE curriculum is available to students from 11 to 16 as they progress to secondary school. For students 16 to 18 years old, the school also offers A levels.
Sekolah Victory Plus offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to their students from primary to secondary school levels. The school is located in Kemang Pertama, Bekasi.
Sinarmas World Academy offers the Cambridge curriculum to students from pre-kindergarten to Grade 12. Upper secondary level students have the options of IB DP and IB CP.
34. Singapore Intercultural School South Jakarta
Located in South Jakarta, Singapore Intercultural School offers their students the Singapore and Cambridge curricula from preschool to secondary school. As students complete their IGCSE, the IB DP is offered to them as part of their junior college programme.
Located in Gading Serpong, Stella Maris School offers the IB DP to students in Grades 11 to 12. Additionally, the school offers a wide array of extra-curricular activities to ensure that their students have a well-rounded education.
36. Surabaya Intercultural School
Surabaya Intercultural School at Citra Raya caters to students from early childhood to high school. Students in elementary and middle school are offered the IB PYP. As they progress to high school, they are offered the K-12 curriculum and are prepared to sit for the AP examination.
Established in 1994, Tunas Muda School is a Catholic school that offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP for their students ages 1 to 18. The school has two campuses – Meruya and Kedoya.
38. Tzu Chi School
Tzu Chi School offers the Ren Wen Curriculum to their early years students and the Cambridge curriculum to their primary students. As their students’ progress to high school, they are offered the IB MYP and IB DP.
39. Yogyakarta Independent School
Established in 1989 Yogyakarta Independent School offers the IB PYP, IB MYP and IB DP to learners from ages 3 to 18.
