There has been a steady rise of British private and international schools in China over recent years. These schools are originally located in the United Kingdom and have established overseas campuses in China.

 

Here are four British schools which has branched out in China:

 

Rong Qiao Sedbergh School

1. Rong Qiao Sedbergh School

Located in Changle District, Fuzhou, Rong Qiao Sedbergh School is a British boarding school designed with a combination of both Chinese and Western architecture. The school opened in September 2018 and caters to students of aged two to 18 years old. Each classroom has a maximum capacity of 25 students. The EYFS curriculum is practised for students aged two to six, CCES plus international curriculum for students aged six to 15. Students aged 15 to 18 years old sit for the GCSE and A Level examinations. Students are also encouraged to be involved in extracurricular activities such as photography, canoeing, rugby and fencing. Every summer, Rong Qiao Sedbergh School organises an overseas study tour to famous schools around the world to allow students to experience different cultures and improve their English.

 

Merchiston International School (MIS)

2. Merchiston International School (MIS)

Merchiston International School (MIS) in Shenzhen is the first overseas campus of Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, Scotland. The school is located in Longhua District in the north of Shenzhen city and can accommodate 1,200 students with a maximum class size of 22. The school opened its doors to boys and girls aged five to 18 years old in August 2018. Students from Year 1 through Year 9 follow the international curriculum for a solid foundation. In Years 10 and 11, students are prepared for the IGCSE and followed by the A Level examinations in Year 12 and 13. Students are also encouraged to take part in enrichment courses like performing arts and music, drama, sports and co-curricular activities. Merchiston International School also offers three apartment buildings with state-of-the-art facilities to its students.

 

Wellington College International Tianjin

3. Wellington College International Tianjin

The Wellington College International Tianjin offers education levels from Middle School to Pre-university. Courses for students in Grades 7 to 9 are based on the UK National Education Programme. Grade 10 and 11 students prepare themselves through a two-year course of study for the IGCSE examinations. Students are required to take Mathematics, English and Science as core subjects. In addition to that, optional subjects are also required and students typically take 10 subjects. The school also offers a three-year A Level programme for Chinese students interested in applying to overseas universities. The A Level programme is recognised internationally for its academic level and authority, and serves as a great foundation for students to prepare them for university.

 

 

Harrow International School Beijing

4. Harrow International School Beijing

At Harrow International School Beijing, a British-based international education is offered to students aged from two to 18 years old. The school’s preschool level is divided into early years where students aged from two to five begin their learning journey. Students then move on to the pre-prep level from Year 1 to Year 5. Once completed, students will go into Upper School. During Year 9, all students will begin their IGCSE Science courses. In Year 10 and Year 11, students follow the GCSE, and/or IGCSE courses. The school also provides an extensive sports programme in line with the school’s tradition of providing a broad and holistic education.
