Schools that want to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes such as the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), Diploma Programme (DP) and Career-related Programme (CP), need to undergo an authorisation process by the International Baccalaureate. After the authorisation process has been completed, the school will be recognised as an IB World School. There is a number of IB World Schools located in Southeast Asia due to the popularity of the curriculum. 

Here are five IB World Schools located in Bangkok:

 

1. Ascot International School

Ascot International School accepts students aged three to 18 years old. The school is authorised to provide the PYP and DP at primary and pre-university levels respectively. At secondary school, Ascot International School follows the British Curriculum’s Key Stages 3, 4 and 5. Secondary school students are prepared to sit for the IGCSE examination in Year 11. In addition, English as an Additional Language (EAL) & Numeracy is offered to students to meet the English language standards set by the school. Ascot International School also promotes an inclusive environment to accommodate gifted students and those with special educational needs. In addition, the school prioritises the mental health and well-being of both students and staff. Activities such as meditation, yoga, mindful colouring and tai chi are integrated in the school’s curriculum. 

 

2. Bangkok Patana School

Bangkok Patana School is known as the first and biggest British international school in Thailand. The school offers a British based education to students aged two to 18 years old. The British Curriculum is taught up to Year 11 whereas the DP is offered to students in Year 12 and 13. Secondary school students follow a two-year programme which prepares them to sit for the IGCSE examination in Year 10 and 11. In addition, the school offers students opportunities to develop soft skills, encourage leadership and prepare for life after school. Some of the activities include Junior Enterprise, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Model United Nations (MUN).

 

3. Concordian International School 

Concordian International School offers the PYP, MYP and DP from primary to pre-university levels. Early Years students are taught a uniquely designed inquiry-based programme based on the PYP. Lessons from Nursery to Grade 4 are taught in two languages, Mandarin and English. The language of instruction from Grade 5 to 12 is English and Mandarin is offered as a second language. The Concordian Counseling Department provides individual and group counseling sessions to students as well as support for parents. In addition, boarding is offered to students in Grade 8 to 12 though the Concordian Residency Program.

 

4. International School Bangkok 

International School Bangkok was established in 1951 as the International Children’s Center on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy to provide an education to children of American expatriates. The school has since expanded and moved to its current purpose-built campus in 1992. The school offers Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 levels and aims to prepare students with knowledge and skills to become leaders and caring global citizens. The curriculum at International School Bangkok is based on the American Curriculum. The DP is offered at pre-university level. 

 

5. KIS International School

KIS stands for Knowledge, Inspiration and Spirit. The school was established in 1998 and offers the PYP, MYP and DP.  KIS International School places an emphasis on learning new languages. A long list of additional languages is offered to students such as Spanish, German, French, Mandarin and Thai. English as an Additional Language is also provided to help non-native speakers reach the level of English competency to cope with MYP and DP. In addition, the school offers university counseling to students through career talks, university visits and more.
